Melissa moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2002 after receiving her B.A. from Oberlin College in Ohio. After a few years in social work, she decided to pursue Massage Therapy and attended the Big Island Academy of Massage. After completing her apprenticeship at Island Therapeutic Massage and receiving her massage license in 2005, she worked at a number of places including Kalani Honua in Puna, Mauna Kea Resort and Kona Day Spa, Olena’s in Hilo and Kulaniapia Bed and Breakfast. She finally arrived at Banyan Massage where she teamed up with Anne in 2008 to establish a thriving massage practice.
Melissa considers herself an on-going student and, as such, continuously seeks to deepen her massage practice. She offers a wide-range of modalities including Deep Tissue, Lomi Lomi, Hawaiian Hot Stones Massage (Pohaku Wela), Pre-Natal Massage, Cranial Sacral and Myofascial Release. Melissa also received her Level I in Reiki and is currently a devoted Ashtanga Yoga student. Though she has experience in the spa industry, her passion is therapeutic massage and assisting people in improving the quality of their lives. Melissa strongly believes in having an unconditional regard for her clients and seeks to support them by drawing from her deep well of knowledge and compassion. Every session is unique and based on an individual’s particular and distinct needs. Melissa feels tremendously grateful to have found a professional path that is as rewarding as Massage Therapy and to be a part of the phenomenal team of therapists at Banyan Massage.
Anne Nuttall, LMT #8073
Co-Owner of Banyan Massage
Anne moved to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2003 after graduating from Massage Therapy school in Boulder, Colorado. She completed Hawaiian Lomi Lomi training at Aunty Margaret Machados’ in 2004 and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in Hawaii shortly thereafter. She continued her education and was employed at the Hawaiian Islands School of Massage in Kona where she studied Medical Massage, Hawaiian Hot Stones Massage (Pohaku Wela) and Thai Massage. She also worked as an administrator, student counselor and massage clinic manager. In 2008, Anne joined Melissa as Co-Owner of Banyan Massage. Together they have grown the business into a well respected and thriving massage practice that serves both Hawaii locals and visitors alike.
In 2018, Anne discovered a truly unique and highly therapeutic massage modality called Ashiatsu, in which the therapist’s feet, body weight and gravity are utilized to apply broad deep pressure. She completed foundational and advanced training courses in ‘Deepfeet Bar Therapy’ Ashiatsu in Portland, Oregon and is now a certified practitioner of this modality.
Anne is skilled and experienced in many modalities though these days her passion and specialty is in Ashiatsu. She also offers Integrative Massage (addressing the body as a whole integrated system) and incorporates Swedish Massage and Lomi Lomi as well as Deep Therapeutics where she applies techniques such as Myofascial Release, Acupressure, Trigger Point Therapy and Joint Mobilization. Anne also performs specific pain and injury treatment massage and works with clients who seek acute injury rehabilitation as well as chronic pain management. Her sessions are always curated and customized to each individual’s specific needs and she takes great care in providing a personalized experience for every client. She has a kind and nurturing presence and an open heart. With a deep passion for massage and bodywork Anne feels very fortunate to be a professional in the field and to be an integral part of the team at Banyan Massage.
Ariel Tergeoglou, LMT #6106
Born and raised in Hawaii, Ariel received her massage license in 2000 from The Big Island Academy of Massage and a B.A. from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in 2006. Her massage therapy work since then includes a wide range. She has experience in medical massage, working closely with physical therapists and chiropractors on specific pain management issues. She has also worked in luxury hotels and B&B’s providing a more relaxation style massage. She offers a unique blend of bodywork designed to both relax and mend the aches and pains caused by our daily lives. She incorporates Lomi Lomi, Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue, Hot Stones and a host of other modalities. Ariel is very passionate about her field. She nurtures this passion by maintaining a sense of balance in her everyday life through things like surfing and hanging out with her family. Ariel is clear and present, and always ready with a smile for everyone she meets.
Jenn Mahone, LMT #5470
Jennifer has been practicing Massage Therapy on the Island of Hawaii since 1999, in both Kona and Hilo. She specializes in Lomilomi and relaxation massage. Most recently, she completed CranioSacral Therapy Levels 1 and 2 through Upledger Institute and has been integrating this amazing technique into her massage treatments. CranioSacral work assists in deep relaxation and homeostasis of the central nervous system. When she’s not in a massage session, you can find her playing in the garden and bodysurfing on this beautiful island!
Michelle Wong, LMT #9178
Michelle was born and raised on Oahu. She moved to the Big Island in 2019 leaving her 13 year spa position in a resort hotel, seeking to be closer to nature and live a slower pace of life. She attended Hawaii Healing Arts College for Massage Therapy in 2004, ISBE for Esthetics in 2010, participated in advanced esthetic courses, and is a certified Medical Massage practitioner. She specializes in Myofascial and Neuromuscular work, often incorporating a mix of Swedish and Lomilomi to relax and soothe. Other styles performed include Hot Stones, Reiki, Deep Tissue, and Sports massage. Michelle views each session as an opportunity to extend health and well-being to the world. She will treat you with pure intention and healing care. Her hobbies include hiking, inline skating, reading, and spending time with her family.
Maxwell Stark-House, MAT #7714
Maxwell has been practicing bodywork since he moved to Hawaii in 2001. He began by working with his peers where he discovered a natural ability to listen to a person’s body. He went on to formally train at the Big Island Academy of Massage and graduated in 2003. During this time he also completed his first Yoga Teacher Training with Kathy Elder and began studies in Healing Dance (Aquatic Bodywork) with Inika Spence. Since graduating massage school he has gone on to study and incorporate different modalities such as: Hawaiian Lomilomi, Thai Massage, Reiki, Deep Tissue, Vibrational Healing and Chinese Acupressure. He continues to explore the healing arts with an open mind and heart, always in search of more ways to cultivate greater health, happiness and peace in our lives.
Stephanie Accalia, LMT #16198
Stephanie first discovered her love of movement as a young dance student in Chicago. From a
very young age, she was deeply motivated to guide people to a place of awareness and
empowerment in their own bodies. In 2009 she came to Hawaii to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. Along with university studies, she
has also studied Hula, Oli, Aerial Dance, Reiki and Yoga here in Hawaii. After working for a few
years as a trainer and coach, she was inspired to study massage out of a desire to better assist
her clients in achieving their personal health goals. Stephanie uses a wide range of techniques in a typical session including Lomi Lomi, Hot Stones, Fascial Release, Deep Tissue and Lymphatic Drainage, as well as spa treatments. She has worked in private settings and in busy spas, with clients of all ages and backgrounds. She most enjoys being able to work with an individual to formulate a unique treatment plan to address their specific needs. Stephanie strives to always be learning in some capacity. Along with continuing studies in massage she also plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
Kaitlyn Sweeney, LMT #16058
Kaitlyn moved to Hawaii in 2014 after receiving her B.S. from Philadelphia University. She serves Hawaii Island as a birth doula providing physical, emotional, and educational support to expecting mothers. Her passion for birth work inspired her to become a Licensed Massage Therapist. She attended and completed her apprenticeship at Hokulani Massage Academy in Waimea, HI and received her massage license in 2019. Kaitlyn is passionate about the emotional and physical healing of body work. She is committed to providing a comforting, therapeutic environment for her clients to heal and relax. She is continuously learning and incorporating new modalities into her practice. Kaitlyn specializes in Swedish Massage and draws from a mix of modalities to suit each individual’s specific needs integrating Relaxation massage, Reflexology, Deep Tissue, Lomi Lomi, AromaTouch, and Prenatal Massage. Kaitlyn has a calm, nurturing presence and feels grateful to offer bodywork to her community. She feels very fortunate to be a part of the team at Banyan Massage Hale.
